Who am I?

Mbonisi Masilela
Traveler & Photographer

a traveller at heart

I found travel before I found photography but now I cannot imagine one without the other. For as long as I remember, I have always lived vicariously through atlases and encyclopedias. Remote, frozen and exotic destinations have always fascinated me. I always imagined what it was like to visit or live in some of the places I saw on our beautiful planet’s map. I also imagined the people that lived in these places and called these amazing places home. Travel was always a dream and but eventually and thankfully, it became a reality.

Photography came much later after I started traveling. I always wanted to remember these beautiful locations and photography was the natural solution. With time, it changed from taking pictures to trying and learning how to make pictures. I am by no means a professional photographer. I consider myself a student of landscape photography with so much more to learn. I particularly love slow and deliberate nature of landscape photography but I am also open to other types of photography like travel, nature and wildlife photography.

Born in the southern nation of Zimbabwe, today I call Washington DC home but consider my self a denizen of the world. I hope to eventually visit all the countries of our beautiful planet and as I do, I will certainly attempt to capture amazing moments in time!
